The Turritopsis Nutricula is able to revert back to a juvenile form once it mates after becoming sexually mature.

Marine biologists say the jellyfish numbers are rocketing because they need not die.

Dr Maria Miglietta of the Smithsonian Tropical Marine Institute said: "We are looking at a worldwide silent invasion."

The jellyfish are originally from the Caribbean but have spread all over the world.

Turritopsis Nutricula is technically known as a hydrozoan and is the only known animal that is capable of reverting completely to its younger self.

It does this through the cell development process of transdifferentiation.

Scientists believe the cycle can repeat indefinitely, rendering it potentially immortal.

While most members of the jellyfish family usually die after propagating, the Turritopsis nutricula has developed the unique ability to return to a polyp state.

Having stumbled upon the font of eternal youth, this tiny creature which is just 5mm long is the focus of many intricate studies by marine biologists and geneticists to see exactly how it manages to literally reverse its aging process.

That is fucking sweet.
I wonder how long until they start experimenting to see how we can exploit and use it ourselves as an alternative to botox?

While from a purely scientific standpoint, I think it would be great to find out how to end or reverse the aging cycle.

From a socio-economic point of view, I think it's a terrible idea and we could see overpopulation that defies comprehension should an anti-aging "treatment" ever reach the market at an affordable price.

Warned you we tried.
Listen you did not.
Now screwed we all will be.

Unlikely that we could ever find a way to live forever as we are far more complex than a simple jellyfish.

I doubt a successful anti aging treatment would have big impact on the population.

- The fastest growing populations are always the poorest ones. Even an "Affordable" treatment would not be affordable for most of the world.

- The more money and education people have, the less likely they are to reproduce.
People getting these treatments will be unlikely to do it just for the sake of having more children.

- As medical technology gives us the possibility of living longer, we find more ways to kill ourselves. In recent years life expectancy in the US has actually gone down from the sheer number of people dying from obesity problems.

- Such a treatment would cause a huge boom for GILF porn.

And a disturbing tangent, assuming this were to happen, how would this affect "child" pornography. If an adult can regress to a young child, but still retain their mental state?

"I swear she was 18 when we started having sex!"

Thanks to TV and for the convenience of TV, you can only be one of two kinds of human beings, either a liberal or a conservative.
