Exclamation The Year in Bans: Baggy Jeans, Burqas, Babies and More

http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-livin...172200625.html

Some of these bans make me very very angry, such as the magazine cover that they tried to hide because it was a picture of a gay couple with a baby and everyone looked happy. WTF is this world coming to?

At my high school baggy pants that weren't worn low enough to show your undies were banned because it was a "safety hazard" to other students. I also wasn't allowed to wear headbands, black lipstick or any other "distracting" makeup, anything that could be considered pajamas or sweatpants, no "house shoes", no tight clothing, etc. Basically, nothing I have ever owned I was allowed to wear.

Bans like this are stupid. People can still choose to look like they can't wear pants properly. But that just gives them bad fashion sense.

Most are stupid.. but some I suppose I agree with.

- The hospital ban I can understand.. A lot of people are stupid.. Doctors are probably trying to still check the health of the baby.. People can wait 5 minutes to take a picture and upload it to facebook. I saw a video somewhere of a guy who was so urgently trying to get a picture of his newborn baby that he dropped the camera right on its face.

- I don't have a problem with schools imposing a dress code. I don't think that telling kids to keep their underwear under their clothes is such a bad thing.
FYI, this is what kids do with their pants now days.

Now, if it were a law imposed on the general public I would have a problem with it.

- I would so love to fly on a plane that banned babies.

- Teens don't need to use tanning beds. They are a health hazard and should only be used by adults.

I agree with what you are saying. In addition to educating children, schools should educate them on how to look respectful. They are, after all, a direct reflection of the school. However, I don't know about uniforms. One of the best things about high school for me was the ability to grow my hair out, wear dumb t-shirts that I made with a Sharpie, flannel pants, and makeup. I doubt I would have been able to do any of that with a dress code. In fact, I'm pretty dang sure I couldn't. Except maybe the hair thing.

I also agree with the plane thing. That's just a response to market needs. There are plenty of people who would pay extra for 'no kids' flights. I'm pretty sure those would be 'party planes' too.

And, I completely agree with the tanning bed ban. Although, like alcohol, I think any child ban on harmful things should be 18, not 21.

Maybe I should have said 'some of these bans are stupid.'

What I mean by dress code is not exactly uniforms.
Expressing yourself as a teen is important. When I was in high school the dress code specified a few things like no holes in jeans. No profanity on your clothes.. Things like that. They left plenty of room for self expression without going overboard. Heh, I think they even had rules for mohawk height so that your hair would not block the view of the board for kids behind you.

Crying babies on a long flight are the worst and I'm just kind of against fake and bake.
